India is facing the threat of a devastating and deadlier second wave of virus. Viruses seem to have become much more transmissible in the second wave. We are admitting entire families who are infected. The doubling rate of infection has been lowered down to 170 days by the end of March. India’s second wave is being fuelled by people being less cautious. There is also a challenge of mutant strain of COVID-19 due to increase in international travels.

The hope is that vaccination will play a part in controlling the wave The newer mutant strains of COVID-19 may include additional symptoms like skin rash, Diarrhoea, Conjunctivitis, hearing  loss, muscle pain, haemoptysis . Since government is not thinking of complete lockdown as of now we need to take strict precautions like:

  • Washing hand with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Especially after being in a public place.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, mouth frequently
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Practice social distancing by keeping at least 6 feet way from others in public.
  • Wear a face mask when around others in public.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue while sneezing. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surface.

The magnitude of this wave is likely to ovewhelm well the already frayed mental health of people so it’s important to go easy on yourself, take care of your body, eat healthy and well balanced meal, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, Avoid substance abuse, stay connected to your family and friends.
